On his last visit to Melbourne in 1976, Srila Prabhupada had suggested that the devotees Srila Prabhupada said could make the temple into a tourist attraction and arrange for guided tours. Devotees had taken his advice seriously.
In July 1977, the National Trust of Australia, a body concerned with maintaining and preserving buildings of historic interest, expressed a desire to bring a group of their patrons for a tour. On the arranged day, a group of 35 highly-respectable Melbournites visited the temple. They were delighted to see the excellent work that the devotees had done in maintaining the handsome, century-old building, now known as "Prabhupada House". They were most impressed with the temple room, with its shining marble and onyx floor and Srila Prabhupada's stately rooms. The group especially enjoyed the large feast served to them after the tour. The leaders promised to return and bring another group in the future.
